It's easy to get involved in PSNA, and can be very rewarding!
Whether you're an empty nester with time to give back, a local retailer or developer desiring to gain a constituency for your efforts, a mid-career homeowner with a full job, kids and no time, or a college student with an interest in public policy or urban planning, there's a place for you at PSNA.
The most basic way to get involved is to join our Email Discussion group at portersquare@googlegroups.com and begin following the conversation. To sign up, email portersquare+subscribe@googlegroups.com. If email clutter is a concern, opt to receive just a single summary email per day. Please note the etiquette we adhere to: keep the conversation constructive, exchange useful information, ask and answer important questions, take long or contentious discussions offline to avoid repetitive or argumentative exchanges, especially between just a couple of members. That said, thank you for being here; we all learn from hearing a variety of viewpoints on many different subjects!
Attend a meeting. All meetings are posted on the listserv. Feel free to introduce yourself to the moderator and offer to circulate the attendance sheet; you will meet a couple of dozen very nice neighbors. If you're good with Zoom, offer to be the Zoom captain helping those on-line to get their questions into the mix. Before long you'll start to get a feel for the issues and grow connected to this wonderful community.
If you think the Bi-Annual City Council Candidate Forum is invaluable, join the small team that runs it. Learn the ropes so there will be someone to run it next time, and the time after. Help us issue the invitations, collect the candidate position papers, formulate good questions, make the name cards, pick up after the room empties.
If you have a green thumb and miss your garden, join the team that sets up and maintains a handful of planters on Mass Av and other streets. The City staff do a great job, but they can't be everywhere. Make a difference in our own area.
Consider raising your hand to be an officer. The tasks aren't hard but they need to get done - deposit dues once a month, post meeting minutes, help plan the next invited speaker, moderate a panel, etc. Elections are held at the November meeting for the ensuing calendar year. We welcome your participation.
