Longfellow Bridge Public Meeting

By admin , 5 October 2010

Location: Shriners Hospital Auditorium, 51 Blossom Street, Boston 02114

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will conduct a public meeting about the upcoming Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project. Following a presentation, they will lead a discussion to gather public comments and answer questions. We've all heard how important but disruptive this project will be; here's a chance to learn some facts and make your voice heard.

MassDOT has been working with the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Task Force since June 2010 to ensure stakeholders are given an equal opportunity to comment on the final approach and roadway cross-section of the bridge, with particular focus on serving transit, roadway, bicycle and pedestrian needs effectively and safely. Upon completion of the series of Task Force meetings in October 2010, MassDOT will amend the Environmental Assessment and file with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in November 2010.

MassDOT has undertaken this major project to restore and rehabilitate the historic Longfellow Bridge across the Charles River. MassDOT will present alternatives that provide safe and convenient access to the transit, pedestrian, motorist and bicycle users of the facility while being consistent with AASHTO and Massachusetts Project Development/Design Guide guidelines.

If you have questions or would like more information about the project, please contact Mike O’Dowd, MassDOT Project Manager, at 617-973-7475. To be added to the project distribution list, please contact Stephanie Boundy, Accelerated Bridge Program Public Outreach Coordinator, at 617-626-1487 or stephanie.boundy@state.ma.us. The Shriners Hospitals Auditorium is accessible.
