Message from Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston:
I have met with the Mayor regarding this developement and the concerns of the neighborhood.
He has proposed that the process be halted and we take the next 45-60 days to have a community discussion on a vision for the area. It would include working with the planning staff in a series of visioning meetings to discuss zoning of the area in light of proximity to the Porter Square area and new zoning the city is in the process of adopting, roadway plans for Somerville Ave and how they are designed to address congestion on Beacon street, bike lanes on Beacon street and the Mass highway project scheduled for Beacon st for 2011.
This slows the process and is much more constructive. It addresses the question raised at several meetings regarding what the neighborhood would like to see in terms of future development and it does so in the context of addressing a future vision plus some real day to day problems.
Please make every effort to attend. This is a move in a more positive direction.
